Description

Cernit Pearl is the high-sparkle mica line in the Cernit range, made in Belgium by The Clay and Paint Factory. Like Cernit Metallic it is built on the Translucent base, but the mica flake is much larger — which is what separates the two lines. Pearl reads as bright, distinct sparkle where Metallic reads as dense, saturated shimmer.

Reviewing it, Ginger Davis Allman found it noticeably more sparkly and brighter than Cernit Metallic, with a large, strongly reflective flake. It sands and buffs well, and doing so intensifies the effect. Despite the translucent base it does not darken appreciably when baked.

Mica shift: this color takes mica shift techniques well — the large flake gives a strong light and dark pattern when the sheet is worked and shaved back.

Working with it: Pearl can run soft. If you get a block that feels sticky, three minutes leaching on copy paper sorts it out.

Worth knowing if you have read the review: Ginger Davis Allman tested this line when it first launched, on blocks straight off the initial production run, and found them extremely goopy. That was a first-batch characteristic. Current stock is better behaved, though it can still be on the soft side.

Supplied as a 250g block — roughly four and a half 56g bars, at a lower cost per gram.

Baking: 230–266°F (110–130°C) for up to 30 minutes in a conventional home oven. Do not exceed 266°F.

Ginger Davis Allman’s Cernit Pearl — The Sparkly Polymer Clay at The Blue Bottle Tree covers the line colour by colour, with side-by-side comparisons against Cernit Metallic.

For the leaching technique, see How to Leach Polymer Clay.
