Hot Weather Shipping
We've had a few questions about shipping bakeable polymer clay in hot weather - here's how we do it!
Tl;dr - Polymer clay will bake in your mailbox in hot weather, but it is possible to order safely (at least from us)
When summer hits, we start watching the weather where your order is going. When temperatures go up, we start using heat shield to line our shipping boxes. At 85F, one layer; at 95F, two layers.
If the temperatures are predicted to be over 100F where the clay is going, we use two layers and send your order signature required. This is because if a package sits in a mailbox or in the direct sun at that temp, even with two layers of heat shield, it will still bake the clay. If you've ever opened your mailbox on a really hot afternoon, you know that it's like a tiny oven in there!
Over the last two summers, we've had only lost a handful of orders to high temperatures using this practice. If something goes wrong and the clay gets baked in transit (because it still happens occasionally) let us know, and we will replace it!
If it's over 100F where you are, but signature required shipping doesn't work for you, let us know - we can always ship to a different address where someone will be around to receive the package, or hold your order for a few days to wait for temperatures to come down.
If it's over 100 but you want us to go ahead and ship without the signature requirement, we can do that, with the understanding that we will not replace the clay if it gets baked in shipping in that case. Just let us know by email or in the order notes.
As always, if you have questions, or need help with your order, email us at orders@blueberrybeads.com, or call the store at 425.314.5448 during normal store hours (11am - 7pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday-Saturday, & 12-5pm Sunday).
