Description
A slicer set for cutting even, repeatable slices from a polymer clay cane — the job that decides whether a finished piece looks handmade or looks careless. Cutting freehand, slice thickness drifts and canes distort under the blade; a slicer holds the angle and the depth for you, so every slice matches the last.
This matters most for millefiori and any cane work where slices sit side by side and an uneven one is obvious. It also helps with thin veneers, where a slice that varies in thickness will not lay flat.
A cold cane cuts better than a warm one. Chill the cane before slicing so it holds its shape, and turn it a little between slices so it does not flatten on one side.
Ginger Davis Allman surveys the whole category — blades, slicers and the tools built around them — in Polymer Clay Slicers — An Overview at The Blue Bottle Tree.
